Math Should Make Sense.
EduPrep Ignite is a small-group Math Enrichment Program for ages 10–13 where students take on real-world problems — building, measuring, budgeting, estimating, testing ideas, and defending their thinking out loud. Not tutoring. Not a traditional math class. A place to learn what to do when the answer isn’t obvious.
The Ignite Philosophy
Math is not just calculation. It is learning what to do when you do not immediately know the answer.
In an Ignite session, a problem worth solving lands on the table — a budget to plan, a structure to design, a pattern to crack, a route to measure. Students sketch, estimate, argue kindly, test, revise, and explain. The answer matters, but the thinking that produced it matters more.
“Students need more than procedures. They need a toolbox for thinking.”
Clear on Purpose
What Ignite is — and what it deliberately is not.
Ignite Is
- ✓A small cohort of 6–8 thinkers who learn out loud together
- ✓Real-world problems worth solving — budgets, builds, designs, mysteries
- ✓Building, measuring, testing, and revising actual ideas
- ✓Explaining and defending reasoning, not just producing answers
- ✓A defined six-week cycle that meets twice weekly
Ignite Is Not
- ×Tutoring, homework help, or remediation
- ×A traditional math class with lectures and rows
- ×Worksheet packets and drill sheets
- ×A race through a scripted curriculum
- ×A replacement for anything you already do at home
Ways Ignite Students Learn to Think
Strategies for when the answer doesn’t show up right away.
These are examples of the kinds of strategies Ignite students may use as they work through real problems. The final ten-strategy toolkit is still being built around the kind of problem solver students should become by Session 12.
Draw the Diagram
When words tangle, sketch it. Seeing a problem changes it.
Make a Table
Organize the chaos into rows and columns and let structure surface the answer.
Look for Patterns
Patterns are shortcuts the problem didn’t know it was giving you.
Estimate First
A good guess is a compass — it tells you whether the final answer even makes sense.
Work Backward
Start at the ending and retrace. Some locks only open in reverse.
Break It Into Parts
Big problems are just small problems wearing a trench coat.
Try a Simpler Case
Shrink the numbers, solve the small version, then scale the insight back up.
Test the Solution
An answer is a hypothesis until it survives a test.
Explain Why
If you can defend it out loud, you actually understand it.
The Six-Week Ignite Arc
Twelve sessions. A clear beginning, build, and challenge.
Ignite runs as a defined six-week cycle, meeting twice each week. Students begin with a baseline challenge, build a broader problem-solving toolkit across the middle sessions, and finish by choosing and defending their own approach to a new problem.
Session 01
Baseline Challenge
Students tackle an unfamiliar problem so we can see what they already do when the path is not obvious.
Sessions 02–11
Build the Toolbox
Each session introduces and applies a problem-solving strategy through a larger real-world challenge.
Session 12
The Ignite Challenge
Students face a new problem, choose their own strategies, solve it, and defend their reasoning.
The exact final ten-strategy toolkit is still being refined. Polya’s process — understand, plan, carry out, and reflect — will wrap around every session.
For Homeschool Families
You’re already educating your child. Ignite adds another kind of learning experience.
You chose homeschool because you know your child best. Ignite doesn’t replace your curriculum, your pace, or your philosophy — it adds the one thing that’s hard to manufacture at a kitchen table: a room full of peers wrestling with a shared problem.
“Homeschooling doesn’t have to mean doing everything at home.”
Two Programs, One Brand
Focus Math and Ignite do different jobs.
EduPrep Focus Math
1:1 Math Tutoring • Grades 4–8
- One-on-one instruction built around your child’s individual skill gaps
- Targets specific academic needs with a personalized plan
- Strengthens foundations and accelerates where your child is ready
- Progress measured against your child — not a group
EduPrep Ignite
Math Enrichment Program • Ages 10–13
- A cohort of 6–8 students solving meaningful, open-ended problems
- Mathematical thinking: logic, measurement, budgeting, patterns, estimation
- Creativity and collaboration — building and testing ideas together
- Growth measured in strategies, confidence, and explanation
“Focus Math helps a student strengthen what they need academically. Ignite gives them a place to use how they think.”
A Parent + Child Preview Experience
Come see how your child thinks when the answer isn’t obvious.
You and your child step into a private, escape-room-style math challenge and solve it together. The goal is not to see how fast your child can get the right answer. It is to notice what happens when they are unsure: how they start, what they try, when they ask for help, how they respond to a wrong turn, whether they change strategies, and how they explain what they were thinking.
What you may notice: Does your child jump in or pause to plan? What happens when they get stuck? Do they look for reassurance, test a new idea, or change strategies? Can they explain why something works? Those moments are part of the experience.
The first Ignite cohort is forming now — and it will stay small on purpose.
Ignite is being built for students ages 10–13. Each six-week cycle stays intentionally small so students have room to think aloud, test ideas, collaborate, and be known. Founding families can help inform the days and times that work best — and no payment is collected until dates and pricing are finalized.
